First Visit

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommend scheduling your child’s first dental visit by their first birthday. Our goal is to empower families with the tools and knowledge they need to help raise a cavity free child. During the initial visit, we offer advice on how to care for your child’s teeth, discuss cavity prevention and address any questions or concerns that you may have.

To enhance comfort and alleviate anxiety, we perform infant exams while your son or daughter is reclining in your lap. We may sing a song and offer lots of praise to make sure that your child is at ease. Our gentle and caring team will cater to your child’s individual needs to ensure a happy and rewarding experience for the entire family.

Parents play a large role in preparing their child for their first dental visit. Children are keen and can sense if you are nervous or display any signs of anxiety. You can help make their first dental experience enjoyable by using positive language when discussing the visit and role-playing with your child such as counting teeth together. Children’s books and videos are also available to help familiarize them with what to expect at their first appointment. Our favorite is a book called “Ready, Set, Brush!” by Sesame Street.

Your child’s dental visit should be an important and fun adventure and if you are relaxed and positive about the experience, it will help your child be positive, too!

Our mission is to care for our young patients like they are a part of our family.
